Day 5 Kindness is.... not selfishness. Selfishness is
acting according to one's own interests and needs without
regard for the needs of others.
2 Timothy 3:2-3
2People will be lovers of themselves,
lovers of money,
boastful,
proud,
abusive,
disobedient to their parents,
ungrateful,
unholy,
3without love,
unforgiving,
slanderous,
without self-control,
brutal,
not lovers of the good,
O Lord, guard the hearts of my children from the error of selfishness.
I earnestly pray that they would not be caught up in thinking only of themselves and their needs.
Keep them from being proud and boastful,
disregarding You,
disobeying me as their mom,
and being ungrateful.
Cause them to recognize selfishness in their lives and
confess it to You.
Luke 14:11
11For everyone who exalts himself will
be humbled, and
he who humbles himself will
be exalted."
Father, deliver them from any attitude of self-exaltation.
Grant them willingness and eagerness to be humble before You and
before others.
Refocus the vision of their selfishness, so that
they can see the needs of others and
what's best for those others.
Connecting with Your Child
1. Read the passage of Joseph.
Help them see how the "character quality of kindness" in Joseph showed
his faith in God's control... not other people.
2. At each meal time this week, share a kind word of
encouragement and appreciation about another person.
3. Ask each to consider what they might give up this week that would benefit someone less fortunate than themselves. At the end of the week share the blessing everyone
received as they gave.
4. Select a "secret pal" within your family and do kind deeds for your secret pal.
Lord, help me to practice taking time out of my day to keep a pulse on their heart needs, to tap into their love languages, and model for them kindness.
This prayer time is from While they were Sleeping by Anne Arkins and Gary Harrell
